Chester “Chet” E. Stone III Fund

The Chester “Chet” E. Stone III Fund was created in October 2024 and will provide a source of ongoing funding specifically to be used for the employment of Harvard students at events run by either the Harvard Varsity Club and/or the multitude of Friends of Harvard sports teams (‘Friends”) organizations.

This fund is initiated in honor of longtime Harvard equipment room manager and Harvard legend, Chester E. Stone III. Chet both employed and provided valuable life lessons to thousands of Harvard students and coaches during his 30-year career. His impact across the university was so wide-reaching that Harvard presented Chet with its highest honor, “The Harvard Medal for Extraordinary Service to the University”, in 2006.

Money held in the fund will be used initially solely to hire Harvard students to work at HVC and Friends events. In addition, should the money held by the Fund grow to an amount whereby the Fund oversight committee, in conjunction with the HVC Board Executive Committee, determines that sufficient funds exist from annual investment distributions, the HVC may initiate a summer stipend program for Harvard students.

* Gifts to the Chester “Chet” E. Stone III Fund are 100% tax deductible via the Harvard Varsity Club, Inc.

* Gifts to the Chester “Chet” E. Stone III Fund will not receive Harvard College Fund or Reunion Class credit.

Chet's Impact

“Chet Stone was a special human being who made my time at Harvard very special. When I was fortunate enough to work for him at Dillon, he didn’t treat me as an athlete, or as a student, but as a person. Behind that tough exterior, Chet was kind, thoughtful, and generous, and a great listener.
