Alan was a First Team All-East selection at offensive guard as a senior. He went from a fourth-string defensive guard as a sophomore---when his biggest responsibility was holding blocking dummies---to an All-Ivy selection as a junior with more playing time than any other Crimson guard. The Crimson captured share of the Ivy League title in 1966 with an 8-1 record. He was an All-Ivy player again in 1967, and gained Associated Press Honorable Mention honors as well as earning All-New England and All-East recognition. Alan graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was a Rhodes Scholar.
