Harvard Athletic Achievements

The first Harvard swimmer to make the Olympics, he dominated Eastern waters for three years. In 1937 he set Harvard records at four freestyle distances, three of the marks holding up for almost two decades. Two of those records came in the most thrilling meet in Harvard aquatic history, the 39-3 victory that stopped Yale’s incredible undefeated record at 164. He captained the undefeated 1938 team, helped Harvard win two Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League championships and compile its longest winning streak, 23 meets.
