This San Leandro, California native led Harvard to an impressive 16-3 record his senior year when he was the team captain. Considered to have a first class overhand, a fine serve, powerful forehand and solid volley, he won the Walter J. Bingham Award, Harvard’s highest athletic honor, at graduation time. He never lost to Yale in four singles and doubles play, at a time when Yale had its greatest teams. As a senior, he beat Donald Dell (6-3 in the third set, after being behind 3-1) in singles, with the Harvard win over Yale giving Harvard the Eastern Intercollegiate title.
