On July 23, 1921, he electrified the track world by becoming the first man to broad jump more than 25 feet. His epic leap of 25 feet 3 inches in the Oxford-Cambridge meet still stands as a Harvard record, the oldest on the books. Also an outstanding sprinter and multiple-point contributor in team efforts. Went on to a distinguished post-graduate career, including the national presidency of the Olympics in 1964.
