Harvard Athletic Achievements

Flamboyant in his every move, he played guard for three years with such joyous abandon that he was everybody’s All-American as a senior, the first Harvardian to win such an honor since the fabled Barry Wood a decade earlier. Dubbed the “Baby-Faced Assassin” by fanciful writers, he exasperated bulkier opponents, bored his way into enemy backfields, and put a crescendo into his tackles. Two decades later he showed the same fire to win election as Governor of Massachusetts.
