A freckle faced freshman from Long Island who became the Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo, he never faltered on his rise to international fame as one of the world’s best springboard divers. For three years he contributed generously to Harvard’s outstanding aquatic teams, capping his college career in 1960 by winning both the one-meter and three-meter titles in the Eastern Seaboard championships. Four years later, as a Navy Lieutenant, he led the country’s Olympic qualifiers and just missed the gold as the U.S.A swept the event. Since retiring from competition after the Olympics, he has maintained his interest in the sport as a judge at such events as the Pan American, World and Olympic Games.
