Jim left records in his wake as he assumed quarterbacking duties after Holt and led Harvard to its first undisputed Ivy championship in 1975. On his way to earning a place on the 1975 All-East, All-New England, and All-Ivy teams, he broke the mark for single-game total yards when he amassed 310 yards against Columbia. Despite playing through constant pain, Jim graduated as Harvard’s career leader in total offense; his perseverance garnered him the 1977 Jack Fadden Award for overcoming physical adversity.
