A muscular giant who divided his ample talents between tossing the shot and discus progressively further and carrying a football devastatingly from a fullback post. Four times he broke the college record in the shot, adding fractionally for a final figure of 48 feet 10 inches that stood for five years; four times he cracked the discus record, adding more than 10 feet to the old mark, and his best of 157 73/4 inches was on the books for 14 years. Played three years as a football standout, captaining the 1933 team.
