Outstanding stroke in 1927 and in 1928 when he was captain, he brightened an otherwise dark period of Harvard rowing with six straight winning races at various distances. The 1927 crew, due largely to his genius as a stroke, broke Yale’s string of consecutive four-mile victories after six long years.
