Harvard Athletic Achievements

Joseph’s fabulous Harvard career was highlighted by winning the Intercollegiate Fencing Association foil title in 1950, the first by a Harvard fencer in 16 years. He also finished in the top 10 in the NCAA championships, and won all nine bouts in the final round after overcoming a severe knee injury in the early part of the season. As a team, Harvard was 19th in the nation that season. His elegant, classical style reflected Rene Peroy’s exquisite coaching.
