Kevin won the Bingham Award as a senior and became the school’s first two-sport captain since Bob Cleary ’58. He led the Crimson to three straight EIBL titles and keyed two appearances in the College World Series in 1971 and 1973. Kevin was a starting center fielder his junior and senior year and he hit .333 as a senior and led the team with 14 stolen bases. He won the Charles H. Blair Award as the best hitter in the Eastern League with a .419 average in 1973. Hampe was also an outstanding defenseman for the ice hockey team, Kevin finished his varsity hockey career with 23 points and was a second team All-Ivy League selection as a senior while leading the Crimson to its best record of the decade 17-4-1. After graduation, Hampe became an assistant hockey coach at Dedham High School, where he had been an All-League and All-State hockey and baseball player. In 1976, Hampe came back to Harvard as the junior varsity coach and became an assistant coach for the varsity squad in 1984 and continued in the role until 1997.
