A classic oarsman in the heroic mold, he added lustre to family tradition as the third in four generations of Bancrofts in the varsity boat. The power man in a crew that defeated Yale four straight years. Hailed by his mates as a man of uncompromising strength under severe pressure, he was honored with the captaincy in 1933. Also a football standout, a regular lineman for three years.
