Not only is Michael Zimmerman the first men’s Water Polo inductee to the Harvard Varsity Club Hall of Fame, but he is also Harvard’s first ever All-American in the sport for Harvard. The senior captain and four year letterwinner broke the single season scoring record as a sophomore with 101 goals and 21 assists and is the all-time career scoring leader in program history. Recognized as an Honorable Mention All-American in 1996 for his scoring prowess, he followed up his senior campaign with First Team All-American Honors in 1998, a feat almost unheard of in teams not qualifying for NCAA Championships.
Honored often for his abilities, Michael was named All-EWPA and All-Ivy as a freshman. In 1996 he was named First Team All-EWPA and All-Ivy, as well as Co-Ivy League Player of the Year. In his senior campaign, along with his All-American honors, he garnered Second Team All-Northern Division accolades.
