Won four track and three cross country letters during a college career that brought him both the indoor and outdoor IC4A mile titles. His 4:12.4 mile in the 1932 indoor meet stood as a Harvard record for a quarter century. He also held the Harvard 880 record for six years. He went on to compete in the 1932 Olympics, and after graduation came back to win the 880 for Oxford-Cambridge in 1933 meet with Harvard-Yale.
