Harvard Athletic Achievements

The swashbuckling leader of a swashbuckling team, he battled his way to a place on the Ivy League honor roll with three seasons of outstanding tackle play. His 1958 team thrashed Yale, 28-0, to snap a three-year Eli string, as he bulwarked a stunning defense that allowed the Bulldogs only 12 yards by rushing. His stable leadership provided a necessary balance for a young and eager team that started Harvard back to football respectability. He was chosen to the All Ivy Team of the decade (1955-65) and the All Ivy Team of the league’s first twenty years (1955-1975). Always eager to be in the middle of action, he also played two years of lacrosse and one of rugby.
