His golfing career was almost a duplicate of Chandler’s. They were frequent finalist foes in many championships but maintained a fine family relationship, even to the extent of sharing twin niches in the Golf Hall of Fame. High point of his career was a victory over the famed Harry Vardon. He was instrumental in the development of the modern golf ball.
