Harvard Athletic Achievements

The captain of the 1952-53 Crimson, Walter led his team to an 11-5-1 season under coach Cooney Weiland. The highlight of his senior season was helping Harvard to the inaugural Beanpot Championship, when he scored the overtime goal in the title game against Boston College. To no one’s surprise, he was named the tournament’s MVP, and later received (along with Amory Hubbard) the John Tudor Award for outstanding play in the Crimson’s come from behind win over Yale in 1953. Walter also lettered in baseball and football at Harvard.
