Wayne’s time of 9.7 seconds in the 100 yard dash ties him as Harvard’s record-holder in the event. He ran the 100 in under 9.8 on seven occasions and, although today’s synthetic tracks have led to faster times, no other Harvard sprinter has achieved the equivalent of running under 9.8 as often. As captain of the team in his senior year, nobody beat Wayne off the blocks, and few beat him in a race. He earned six varsity letters, three each in indoor and outdoor track.
