Harvard Athletic Achievements

In coach Harry Parker’s words, Bill was “one of the most powerful oarsmen I have coached in all my years at Harvard.” In his first year of rowing, Bill earned a spot on the 1968 Olympic team, stroking a pair (with coxswain) to an upset victory in the Olympic trials, and a fourth place finish at Mexico City. As a sophomore, he was regarded as the strongest member of a varsity squad that included nine members of the 1968 Olympic Rowing Team. Bill rowed on crews that won two EARC championships. In 1972, Bill won a silver medal at the Olympics in Munich as a member of the eight.
